Nomads claim first win of the season at Risley
Nomads travelled to Risley to take on our regular opponents. It was agreed that Nomads bat first and Jon Loxley set off at a cracking pacescoring 34 in 23 balls before being caught. Things inevitably slowed down as Gardner and Adam Hughes, returning to the game after a long absence, compiled runs. Just before tea, in an effort to increase the pace, Gardner was bowled bringing in Dan Moss who produced several elegant strokes to reach 36. Gibson and Rolfe kept the score moving whilst Hughes also started to up the tempo and a respectable total of 199 was reached.
Gabbitas and Roppa bowled tightly to keep the total in check, Nomads hoping to have scored some 20 more runs. However the ball was keeping low at times and with a good bowling attack the prospects seemed good.
Lee and Cogzell opened and the opening bats went onto the attack but Cogzell was bowling superbly, bringing the ball into the right handers who tried to drive him and ended up being bowled. Andy Gibson also claimed one of the openers to a splendid catch by Adam Hughes. and the back of the Risley batting was broken. A number of youngsters came in but were soon sent back falling to the guiles of John Hoddy.
The captain took him off after 3 wickets in 2 overs to give the other bowlers a chance. Jordan and Woolley had spells. Cogzell came back to claim his 4th wicket when Lee took a difficult skier at mid off and Moss then finished the innings off.
The match was played in its usual good spirits with Risley fielding a number of youngsters as well as more experienced players.
The excitement of the 1st win was apparently too much for one of our members who got in a round of drinks at the pub but then forgot to pay for them.
