Nomads lose to The Elf
The Nomads won the toss and elected to bat on a parched, straw-coloured ground (reminiscent of the Oval in 1976 ). Rolfe started brightly hitting 3 boundaries before being caught and bowled by Kaines. Loxley continued in this vein, with several powerful shots until he fell to Chuck. Tudor, making his debut for the club joined Gardner and they took the score to 66 at drinks.
The Nomads needed to up the rate and O’Brien provided the impetus to the innings with attacking shots around the ground. He was joined by Cogzell and then Mountford in partnerships 25 and 43 respectively before his retirement at 50 not out. All three helped to take the total to 155.
The Nomads realised they would need to bowl the Elf out for a win. Stenton and Dunn started confidently against the opening attack of O’Brien and Cogzell putting on 58. Dunn was bowled in Mountford’s first over. Mountford then took a sharp low catch at square leg to dismiss Stenton off the spin bowling of Jordan.
Incoming batters Nunns and Jondu kept up the run rate, putting on 53 before Jondo was well caught on the boundary by Tudor off the bowling of Fearon. Despite Pickering’s first two overs only going for 3 runs, the writing was on the wall, and the Elf reached the target off 26 overs for a deserved win with Nunns carrying his bat for 41 not out.
