Lichfield Nomads C.C. v Boundary Breakers C.C.

Boundary Breakers break Nomads' hearts.

On a very hot day at Old Hill Nomads took on Boundary Breakers for the first time.
Having lost the toss, Nomads had to take to the field. This game saw the return of Aneek Mahmood who opened the bowling. The outfield was super-fast and Aneek’s first 2 balls found the edge and streaked down to the 3 rd man boundary but he took a wicket with his 4 th ball. Ian Hughes opened from the other end and suffered similar treatment and 22 came off th3 first 2 overs none from convincing shots. Aneek took his 2nd wicket in the 6th over and then back-to-back wickets in the 8th over.
However Boundary Breakers were scoring at an impressive 8 per over. After 11 overs Cartwright took over from Hughes and slowed the run-rate and Hoddy took over from Mahmood. Hoddy managed to get Hashmi caught behind in the 18th over. After this the scoring got confused on playcricket which omitted batsmen’s names but 2 of Cartwright their batsmen retired on 50 and came back in later and Woolley, Loxley and Rylea Hughes got wickets and Rylea Hughes ran out Rizvi.

Nomads started their reply with Gardner and Loxley who were both out fairly cheaply and Kareem was out for a duck. Aneek Mahmood had begun to hit the bowling. His innings included one six which smashed a beer glass on the pavilion balcony and with the help of Richard Bastable, Nomads caught up with the required run rate. However with the dismissal of Bastable and retirement on 50 of Mahmood, the prospect of victory disappeared. Mahmood returned after the loss of a further 5 wickets and looked set to reach his century before being caught on the boundary on 84.
Aneek deservedly won MVP. Although the opposition were sociable on the whole, the constant appealing and disputing decisions was tiresome.
