Nomads in a rush to get to the bar at Rushall

The pitch and outfield at Rushall was dry and dusty, so much so that the groundsman couldn’t paint a permanent batting crease. The Nomads won the toss and elected to field. The Elf openers started cautiously against the accurate opening opening attack of Mahmood and Hughes on an unpredictable pitch. They put on a steady 30 off the first 10 overs until Fell, trying to up the scoring rate in Cogzell’s first over, got stranded going for a sharp run and was run out by Cogzell’s calm throw to keeper Rolfe.
Loxley did well to hang on to a catch from Stenton’s firmly hit off drive. Perager was also caught at mid off for a well made 27. Wickets continued to fall regularly with Cogzell, Mountford and Cartwright all getting 3 wicket hauls and Pickering chipping in to provide Loxley with his third catch. The Nomads were left wondering if the Elf’s total of 86 would be enough on an awkward pitch.

Loxley set the agenda for the Nomads innings, making a quick 15 before falling to a good low catch at mid wicket off the bowling of Caines. Tudor scored 2 boundaries in his brief innings but was trapped LBW off a ball from Butler which kept low. This brought Mahmood to the crease to play a match winning innings. His 35 off only 14 balls included 2 powerfully driven sixes. He and Gardner, who was also finding the occasional boundary, put on a 50 partnership on the way to reaching the target in the 13th over. This was a good overall team performance with the Nomads’ bowling and fielding setting the game up.

And with the Elf winning earlier in the season at Old Hill both sides left with honours even.
